Let the breath have its own sound.

This sensory awareness–based myofascial release practice is part of my Foundations series. I take each movement very slow, so you can get the mechanics down, get to know the language I use, and feel ready to move on to videos that build on these movements. It's great for beginners, and really great for anyone.

We start on the back body, getting to know your signature shape: noticing the areas making contact with the ground and the areas that feel spacious. Then we move through the whole body with slow sliding and gliding, the head cradled in the hands while the spine moves like a wave, and a gentle cobra variation on the belly. Along the way, we let the breath have its own sound. I call it the voice of the breath.

We always observe with compassion and curiosity so that we can learn rather than judge our body. Let the movement take you instead of having to think so hard about it. These are ancient movements to your body. Long before you even knew you had a body, your body was doing these movements.
