Let the body dictate.

This myofascial release sensory yoga practice is part of my Foundations series. I break down the movements, go really slow, and hold each one a little longer, so you can get the mechanics down and get to know the language we use. If you haven't done this practice before, it's a great one to start with. If you have, it's a really nice general practice for overall body release, any time of day.

We begin lying on the back body, getting to know your signature shape: what's happening in your whole vertebral column and back body. Then we awaken the chain from the feet up into the hips, give the sacrum a little massage, and pair that with gentle movements of the jaw and neck. When we work with the cranial area and the sacrum together, things often start to get a little quieter and you may notice a calm begin to take over.

In this sensory practice, we always let the body dictate, so we don't miss any of its messages. And as I write in my book, Your Body Never Meant You Any Harm, the most important gift you can give yourself is to remain open, curious, and compassionate to what you observe.
