Course Description

An 8-week Program of Embodiment and Self-compassion Skills Training for Disordered Eating and Making Peace with Your Body

PhD, LCSW-R; ERYT-500, C-IAYT

Ann Saffi Biasetti

Throughout my clinical career I have been drawn to practicing within a holistic framework, integrating thoughts, emotions and physical sensations in the moment. The world of neuroscience, especially embodied cognition and consciousness studies, has greatly influenced my psychotherapy work and the formulation of my interventions. I have developed a technique, used within talk therapy sessions, that allows you to become aware of patterns, both in the mind and body that may no longer serve you in your life. Together we work on re-framing and re-programming these patterns. In the past, I have trained in Gestalt group psychotherapy as well as Relational theories. Ten years ago I obtained my 200 hour yoga teacher certification and went on to complete over a thousand hours of additional training in yoga (E-RYT-500), yoga therapeutics, and yoga therapy. The emphasis of my yoga therapy training has been on mind/body integration, which has greatly influenced my clinical work.

I have been searching, for some time, for a program that would resonate with me in order to address my relationship with food. My very logical side was always well aware of my issues, but my negative side always seemed to take over. This program allowed me to address that negative side and how I spoke to myself, allowing me the opportunity to address those issues and change the way I received them and myself. If you are thinking about taking this course, I not only highly recommend, but I also recommend that you do the work. Take your time, and work the process. Allow yourself to linger in areas that need extra attention, and the results will begin to appear. It is not easy but change, habits, and self-discovery never are.

The Befriending Your Body course has given me the tools to enhance my body mind connection. It has also given me tools I can share with clients who are struggling with issues relating to eating disorders and body image. I am a mental health care provider and I have shared Anne's book with numerous clients. The feedback and progress are so positive. My clients range in age from 18 to 65, the exercises and meditations resonate with all age groups. By identifying our own needs Anne enables us to address and repair our thoughts regarding self, food and body image. We are taken on a journey of self forgiveness which allows us to re-train our thought process allowing self compassion. We are taught not just "fixing" a problem, but living a more fulfilled life. The expectations are realistic, allowing for our fears and setbacks to be accepted, acknowledged and worked on. I look forward to ongoing self compassion for myself and my clients.
